Aging is one of the factors causing sagging skin and unattractive neck bands. Many men and women choose neck lift surgery to get rid of the unpleasant look. Neck lift surgery is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries done by highly skillful Iranian surgeons on patients from all over the world.

NECK LIFT IN IRAN: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Neck lift or lower rhytidectomy is a cosmetic plastic surgery intended to rejuvenate the neck area by removing excess skin and fat, with the result being a tightened, wrinkle-free skin and a more youthful neck.
The neck lift surgery is technically lower rhytidectomy platysmaplasty or cervicoplasty, depending on the type of the procedure (explained below). It can be done alone or in conjunction with other procedures, especially facelift.

WHAT NECK LIFT CAN TREAT

A lower rhytidectomy can address four common problems of the neck:
Neck wattle and neck bands, causing a condition commonly referred to as ‘turkey neck’
Loose neck skin Excess fat under the chin (double chin) Excess skin and fat in the lower face (jowls)

NECK LIFT SURGERY TECHNIQUES AND OPTIONS

There are two main approaches to neck lift procedure, each addressing specific problems. Depending on the type of problem an individual suffer from, one of the neck lift surgery options below, or a combination of them, are recommended by the surgeon.

Neck liposuction

If there are excess fat deposits in the neck area, a liposuction procedure is carried out to give the person a slimmer, more graceful neck. Neck liposuction is often mean for double chin removal and is performed by making one or two incisions under the chin or behind the ears.
Neck liposuction is a quick procedure and it is often performed under local anesthesia. Patients normally need to wear a special chin strap for three to four days after the surgery and can return to work in one week. During the first 10-14 days after neck liposuction, patients usually experience some swelling and bruising.

Platysmaplasty (cervicoplasty)

As the name suggests, platysmaplasty is the surgical altering of a muscle called ‘platysma’, which stretches from the lower face to the upper chest and shoulders. As people age, this muscle starts to lose its strength and elasticity, causing vertical prominent bands on the neck and lose skin. This condition is informally known as ‘turkey neck’.
In a platysmaplasty procedure, the surgeon tightens the separated and weak platysma muscle of the neck. For achieving a more effective result, the method may be combined with cervicoplasty.
Cervicoplasty is another term used to refer to a neck lift procedure. It is a more general word than platysmaplasty, made up of the technical term for neck, cervix, and the suffix plasty (formation, repair). In general, cervicoplasty is intended to treat necks with sagging skin, wrinkles, and neck bands.
That said, some people differentiate between these two terms, associating cervicoplasty to removal of lax skin on the neck and platysmaplasty to tightening of neck muscles. In whatever way we look at it, a neck lift surgery is often a combination of these techniques. They also can be done together with neck liposuction to achieve the most ideal outcome.
Cervicoplasty and platysmaplasty are done through incisions made around the ear and sometimes a third incision under the chin. Depending on the surgical technique and whether it performed in conjunction with other procedures (liposuction, facelift, etc.), it takes between 2 and 4 hours. The surgery is usually done under general anesthesia, with the patient put to sleep during the surgery.

PREPARATION TIPS TO FOLLOW BEFORE NECK LIFT SURGERY

Nothing is as important as choosing the right surgeon in a plastic surgery procedure. Make sure to choose a board-certified surgeon who has vast practical experience in neck lift surgery.
You should have a good health to be a good candidate for a lower rhytidectomy. So, be frank with your doctor about your health issues and medical history during the pre-op consultation. Also, clearly define your desired results you want to get from a neck lift.
In order to have a successful neck lift surgery, consider the following recommendations:
Stop smoking at least three weeks prior to and three weeks after your surgery, because the nicotine in the tobacco inhibits blood circulation, and thus slows the healing process.
Stop blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and vitamin E, because they increase bleeding during the surgery and might cause post-op complications.
To prevent dehydration, do not engage in intense physical activities the day before surgery.
Arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery and take care of you during the first few nights after surgery.

NECK LIFT SURGERY RECOVERY

A neck lift surgery patient usually has to wear a compression garment for a few days after surgery to minimize swelling and improve blood circulation. It provides comfort and support for the neck and helps the patient recover faster from the surgery.
There will be some swelling for a few weeks after a cervicoplasty or platysmaplasty, but within one week, patients can notice the initial results of their surgery.
The recovery period for a neck lift surgery depends on the patient and extent of the surgery. Typically, there will be a downtime period of two weeks, after which the patient can resume their normal activities and return to work.
Patients are advised to refrain from physical activities for two weeks after surgery. If stiches should be removed, you have to get it done within one week. In most cases, however, absorbable sutures are used and you don’t need to get them removed.
